Top 10 Best Guns in Black Ops 3
The sixth installment of Treyarch's Zombies mode was released in Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Throughout the mode's history, there have been fantastic weapons and weapon types, and on the contrary, there have been weapons that hurt you more than they hurt zombies.
Cold War's Zombies mode continues that trend. Thanks to the changes to how guns work with Pack-A-Punch and the rarity system, nearly every gun in the game is viable. However, that doesn't mean they all are. Even with all the changes, there are still guns that you never want to have in your hands, unless you really want to unlock Camos for them. On the other hand, there are guns you always want to carry.
Updated May 31, 2021, by Johnny Garcia:Black Ops: Cold War is in the midst of Season 3, and remains going strong. Rumors of a Zombies Chronicle 2 are at an all-time high, and plenty of other Zombies content is still to come. With the addition of Outbreak, Tier 4 and 5 upgrades have become present. These upgrades have drastically improved every weapon class, in some cases allowing certain weapons to stand out far above the rest. With Season 3, the Outbreak main easter egg quest has come, so having the best guns is essential due to its heightened difficulty. Treyarch has confirmed that a new round-based map is on the way for Season 4, so it's best to be prepared.
14 Best: AK-47
The AK-47 has been a fan-favorite in Call Of Duty, and in Cold War, it stands out as one of the best Assault Rifles in all of Zombies. The AK-47 has a solid rate of fire as well as damage output, two of the most important things in the mode.
Since it's an Assault Rifle, it won't hurt your mobility, especially if it's equipped to boost that up. Unlike weapons like Light Machine Guns, Assault Rifles, while having lower magazine sizes, are much better since they reload quickly and deal more damage.
13 Worst: FFAR 1
Unlike other Assault Rifles, the FFAR 1 is by far the least viable of the weapon class. While it does have the highest rate of fire in its class, it's also the least accurate. Recoil is something no one wants to deal with, so having such an inaccurate gun isn't something you want.
The FFAR 1 has trouble dealing with hordes of zombies consistently. Since in high rounds you need headshots to take advantage of Deadshot Daquiri and weapon class upgrades to deal out appropriate damage, a gun that will often quickly stray away from your target just isn't good.
12 Best: Streetsweeper
The Streetsweeper was added into the game in the middle of Season 1, and has received a fair bit of buffs for itself since its introduction. It is the first truly fully automatic Shotgun in the game, and this ability lets you tear through hordes and boss zombies alike.
Its reload speed is lower than its other Shotgun companions, but its damage output more than makes up for it. With the combination of Speed Cola and Pack-A-Punch, the Streetsweeper has the potential to be the best Shotgun in all of Zombies.
11 Worst: MAC-10
The MAC-10 was introduced during Season 1 along with the Streetsweper, but unlike the Streetsweper, the MAC-10 is awful in Zombies. While it was fantastic in Multiplayer, its power didn't translate for Zombies.
Submachine Guns in Zombies have the weakness of having fast rates of fire but low accuracy and damage output. They also run out of ammo quickly, so you'll blowing through your points constantly refilling your ammo. The MAC-10 is the most notable offender, as it doesn't do consistent damage and it's incredibly inaccurate, making it difficult to deal with zombies.
10 Best: XM4
The XM4 is one of the guns that plenty of players wanted, with the Commando (its Black Ops 1 equivalent) being one of the most popular guns in that game. Luckily for Zombies players, the XM4 is fantastic in the mode.
Assault Rifles tend to be solid in Zombies, doing good damage and having a solid amount of ammo. With the addition of Ammo Crates, Assault Rifles' biggest weakness of running out of ammo quickly is gone entirely, making them fantastic in Cold War Zombies — and the XM4 is the best of the bunch.
9 Worst: Pelington 703
In Black Ops 3, Snipers were finally a viable weapon in Zombies after being among the worst in the previous entries. However, with Black Ops Cold War, the Sniper Rifles have regressed back to how terrible they used to be.
With the loss of Double Tap 2.0, Sniper Rifles lose what made them viable to begin with. The bullet penetration in Zombies that Sniper Rifles have is terrible and makes it hard to kill more than a few zombies in one shot. The Pelington's low rate of fire, along with bad bullet penetration and power is what makes it so bad.
8 Best: Hauer 77
Shotguns quickly went onto everyone's radar for how good they are. The Hauer 77 is among the best guns in the game. The Pump Action Shotgun does a ton of damage, and when upgraded tears through the zombie horde.
As an added bonus, the Hauer 77 is a wall weapon, meaning you can save some Salvage since you won't have to upgrade it to a Green Tier. This means you can save your lower grade Salvage for some armor rather than worrying about upgrading the gun and armor. It's a low-cost gun as well, helping you save Essence.
7 Worst: M79
With the lack of PhD Flopper/Slider in Cold War Zombies, explosive weapons are at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to other weapons. They'll do damage to you as well unless zombies are far away, and in later rounds, this is a near-impossible task.
What sets the M79 apart from other explosive weapons it that it hurts you a lot, but it barely hurts zombies. Even on the first round of the game, it's rare for zombies to be killed with it in one hit. If it's fully upgraded it barely feels any better. If you really want to use an explosive weapon, either of the Launchers does what the M79 does but miles better.
6 Best: Gallo SA12
The Gallo SA12 is the best gun in the game that's easy to acquire. You don't have to drop in and upgrade it, as it's available early on in the game as a wall weapon that's already a blue rarity.
The Gallo SA12 deals massive amounts of damage, and when Pack-A-Punched can be fired even quicker by simply holding down the fire button. Fully upgraded, the Gallo SA12 can even easily deal with max health Megatons without the need for Ring Of Fire. The Gallo SA12 is the way to go if you want easy, consistent damage.
5 Worst: Magnum
The Magnum is a strange gun. It's one of the few guns in the game that can kill a zombie in one-shot even when they're at maximum health. However, the issue with the Magnum comes from the fact it is only good with headshots.
If you're not shooting the head, the Magnum is going to do practically no damage, to the point it feels like you're just meleeing zombies. This isn't a huge problem in early rounds, however, as zombies' speed increases this becomes a near-impossible task. Taking time to aim for the head isn't something you can do when zombies are moving too quickly, and the Magnum will start to fail you.
4 Best: D.I.E. Electrobolt
The Wonder Weapon of Die Maschine, the D.I.E. Shockwave has five different variations, the base form as well as four elemental versions. The best of the bunch would be the electric upgrade, the D.I.E. Electrobolt.
It shoots a beam of electricity, and the longer it's held down for the more damage it does. It is also the only D.I.E. upgrade that can replenish its ammo from ammo drops from Megatons. It has the highest amount of ammo compared to the rest of the upgrades (and base form) while dealing the greatest amount of damage.
3 Worst: KSP 45
The KSP 45 is one of the worst guns in the game, having the dishonor of being bad in both Multiplayer and Zombies (something very rare in Black Ops Cold War). It's a three-burst SMG with an incredibly slow rate of fire.
This culminates in being a gun you'd never want to use in the game. Outside of getting Camos, there's practically no reason to ever use the KSP 45. It does poor damage, even after upgrades, and is too slow to reliably kill zombies. Perhaps if Double Tap ever gets added it may get improved, but where it stands now it's one of the worst options.
2 Best: Ray Gun
Years after its introduction, the Ray Gun has finally taken its place as the best gun in the game. This hasn't been the case since World At War's Verruckt. The Ray Gun deals out tons of damage, and generally can be constantly refreshed with ammo every round.
Thanks to the Pack-A-Punch system, the Ray Gun can easily dismantle zombie hordes as it gets upgraded. The only downside to the Ray Gun is that it's one of the rarest weapons in the game, making it harder to acquire. However, obtaining it makes it all the more special.
1 Worst: M82
Sniper Rifles are the worst kind of weapon in Cold War Zombies. It only makes sense that the worst Sniper Rifle is also one of the worst guns in the mode. The M82 is the only Auto-Sniper in the game, and in the case of Zombies, this works against it.
Due to its higher rate of fire, it has a lower damage output. With the low bullet penetration Sniper Rifles have, this makes it even worse than the other ones. Not only can it only kill a few zombies with one shot, but there's a chance it won't even kill in one shot unless you get a clear headshot close range.
