Although Kobe beef comes from Japan, some American ranchers also offer the high-quality meat using special cattle originating from the island nation. The state of New Jersey features its fair share of restaurants that serve the high-priced American or Japanese Kobe beef, many of which offer upscale decor and gourmet dining.

Atlantic City

Bobby Flay Steak (bobbyflaysteak.com) lies inside Atlantic City's Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa. Owned and operated by the celebrity chef, the restaurant serves such hearty steakhouse fare as grilled chicken in bacon mustard vinaigrette and spice-rubbed American Kobe strip with Bobby Flay's signature steak sauce. The high-end setting includes massive wine displays, lobster tanks, white tablecloths and wood-carved ceilings.

Also inside the Borgata, the Old Homestead Steakhouse (theoldhomesteadsteakhouse.com) features a two-story, upscale interior complete with dark wood-paneled walls, high ceilings, brick tiled floors, Art Deco light fixtures and cloth-covered tables. The menu includes more than 150 wines, as well as such entrees as 10 oz. Japanese Kobe steaks and 20 oz. American Kobe burgers.

Northeastern New Jersey

You'll find Zinburger (zinburgernj.com) in Clifton, New Jersey, 15 miles west of New York City. The setting includes leather booths, flat-screen televisions, earth tone colors and track lighting. The Lawrenceville-based KC Prime Restaurant Steakhouse (kcprimerestaurant.com) sits halfway between Trenton and Princeton, six miles from each city. The upscale setting includes hardwood floors, exposed wood beam ceilings and oversized upholstered and leather booths. Standard steakhouse fare includes filet mignon, prime rib and Kobe sliders. The restaurant also offers more than 20 wines and a Sunday brunch.

Southwestern New Jersey

Situated in Haddonfield, Fuji Japanese Restaurant (fujirestaurant.com) lies one mile from Wallworth Park, a 55-acre park featuring a lake and pond. The restaurant's interior offers sushi bar seating, rice paper partitions and wood panel-covered walls. The dinner menu includes Kobe beef sirloin strips and chicken teriyaki, as well as sushi and sashimi options.

Located in Cherry Hill, William Douglas Steakhouse (williamdouglassteakhouse.com) sits less than 10 miles from Philadelphia. Partner such dishes as Kobe beef carpaccio and filet mignon with a host of wine offerings from locations like Napa Valley, Australia and Italy.
