Heavy Rain Is Not a Game

image

The designer of Heavy Rain resists the terminus "interactive movie" just that's variety of what it is.

David Cage of Quantic Dream doesn't think the parole "game" is an high-fidelity verbal description of Heavy-duty Rain, a PS3 title owed tabu on January 28th in North United States. The "biz" has been under development since 2006, when it was shown at E3. Heavy Rain is a dark mystery story with maturate themes that delivers big visuals, if the screenshots are any judge.

"Heavy Rain is about playing with a floor virtually in a physical sense, changing it, wiggly IT, discovering it, fashioning it unique, making it yours," Cage explained. "Using the term 'reciprocal movie' to line Leaden Rain has been a tricky call into question from the beginning. It is in many ways what Heavy Rain is – a visually told story that the instrumentalist bathroom affect by his actions."

Nobody likes interactive movies, largely because the games that were called that in the 90s barely had some stake elements at all and were really just broadly speaking connected cut-scenes. Cage is sensitive of this, and is trying to distance Grievous Pelting from it.

"In Heavy Rain, the role player is in dominance second to second," he said, "He tells the story through his actions. All this is done in a very fluid, seamless way, with no cut scenes, no big flashing sign to make decisions, and this is what makes the game really unique."

What that agency is it May not even be a "gritty" at altogether just something wholly former and transcendent.

"Heavy Rain is non a videogame anymore in my mind," He said, "because it breaks with most of the conventional paradigms, but it's fully interactive."

That's sure an hard end. If information technology works, it wish be an accomplishment and we may flush see a slurry of games stressful to imitate the format. If it doesn't come out the stereotype built against interactive movies though, you can tally some other bankruptcy of a game difficult to emulate film.

Maybe games are games for a reason.
